(Full List of Linux Distro currently supported [Here])
Getting started
The Linux build is a single AppImage file. Put it in a folder of its own,
the app creates its Download, temp and logs folders next to it.
1. Make it executable
Right-click → Properties → Permissions → tick “Allow executing file as program”
or in a terminal: chmod +x EdmsUpdater-PX.AppImage
2. Run it
./EdmsUpdater-PX.AppImage
That’s all it takes on most systems.
! – One important note to be aware of.
The application filename use -PX for the Pixeldrain build,
change it to match whichever you downloaded.
(Can be -1F or -W)
The -W version need to have is .zip extracted before doing this process.
If it won’t start, most of them use FUSE, which every AppImage needs.
Here all the code to use to install Fuse. (After that you can redo the process above)
Find your distribution
Ubuntu 24.04 and newer, and anything based on it
(Ubuntu 24.04+, Linux Mint 22+, Pop!_OS 24.04+, Zorin OS 18+, elementary OS 8+, KDE neon)
sudo apt install libfuse2t64
Ubuntu 22.04, Debian, and older derivatives
(Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12/13, Linux Mint 21, Pop!_OS 22.04, Zorin OS 17, elementary OS 7, MX Linux, Deepin)
sudo apt install libfuse2
Fedora and Red Hat family
(Fedora 35+, RHEL 9+, Rocky Linux 9+, AlmaLinux 9+, Nobara)
sudo dnf install fuse-libs
Fedora Atomic
(Silverblue, Kinoite, Bazzite — these don’t install packages the usual way)
rpm-ostree install fuse-libs
systemctl reboot
openSUSE
(Leap 15.4+, Tumbleweed)
sudo zypper install libfuse2
Arch and Steam Deck
(Arch, Manjaro, EndeavourOS, Garuda, CachyOS)
sudo pacman -S fuse2
On Steam Deck, the system is read-only and pacman isn’t the right tool.
Use this instead, which needs nothing installed:
./EdmsUpdater-PX.AppImage –appimage-extract-and-run
Solus
sudo eopkg install fuse2-libs
Void Linux
sudo xbps-install -S fuse
Gentoo
sudo emerge –ask sys-fs/fuse:0
NixOS
AppImages don’t run directly on NixOS,
the system is laid out differently from other distributions.
Use:
nix-shell -p appimage-run
appimage-run ./EdmsUpdater-PX.AppImage
Or add this to /etc/nixos/configuration.nix and rebuild,
after which double-clicking works normally:
programs.appimage.enable = true;
programs.appimage.binfmt = true;
Works on any distribution
If you’d rather not install anything at all, this runs the app without FUSE:
./EdmsUpdater-PX.AppImage –appimage-extract-and-run
It’s slightly slower to start, since it unpacks each time.
Adding it to your applications menu
(Optional)
Without it the app runs fine,
but your file manager and taskbar may show a plain icon instead
of the proper one that’s normal for AppImages.
The simplest route is AppImageLauncher,
which handles this for every AppImage on your system:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:appimagelauncher-team/stable
sudo apt update
sudo apt install appimagelauncher
Then double-click the AppImage and choose “Integrate and run”.
Note that it moves the file into ~/Applications, so the app’s Download and temp folders move with it.
To do it by hand instead, keeping the file where it is
mkdir -p ~/.local/share/applications ~/.local/share/icons/hicolor/256×256/apps
./EdmsUpdater-PX.AppImage –appimage-extract usr/share/icons/hicolor/256×256/apps/edmsupdater.png
cp squashfs-root/usr/share/icons/hicolor/256×256/apps/edmsupdater.png \
~/.local/share/icons/hicolor/256×256/apps/
rm -rf squashfs-root
cat > ~/.local/share/applications/edmsupdater.desktop << ‘EOF’
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=EdmsUpdater
Comment=Download and update EDMS song packs
Exec=/FULL/PATH/TO/EdmsUpdater-PX.AppImage
Icon=edmsupdater
Categories=Game;
Terminal=false
StartupWMClass=EdmsUpdater
EOF
update-desktop-database ~/.local/share/applications
gtk-update-icon-cache -f -t ~/.local/share/icons/hicolor
